Stupid Scarves

Vampire Weekend has recently been showing up all over the place, The NY Times, GQ, NPR, SNL, and The Jensen's Blog. That doesn't mean they're cool, or make good decisions when dressing themselves though. Their oft' mentioned boat shoes are one thing, I'd at least be willing to accept that there is a time and a place for them. Like when you get asked out on the yacht for cocktails. And that's pretty much it. There is no time or place for this scarf though, which showed up last Saturday during their set on SNL. Elton John marching in the parade still couldn't make this work, nor would he try. And if you've out done Sir Elton, I think you have made a bad decision. For you, and everybody else.

He looks pretty stupid in that scarf, but Rachael Bilson (with her new bangs) wears one quite well.

Where's the picture reference? I'm skeptical. But it's true, there are definately different scarf rules for men a women.

That's a completely different scarf! Not macramé, not floor length, and not stupid. The video makes this very clear.

you are totally right. Shame on me. On another note I do think that you really captured the keyboardist's annoying facial expressions with that first picture. He seems to be trying really hard there.

What's a boat shoe?

Has it ever occurred to you all that you may be too conservative for the latest in fashion... Seems like Vampire Breakfast is at least into taking risks, i.e., they're playing to win, not to not lose.

I know the W, and I will acknowledge that he will try anything out from a avant garde fashion perspective... I'm wondering if the rest of the "board" can claim the same.. Can y'all walk the walk?

First I'm going to repost the original comment Alex left:

"Skechers kick ass.... But then again, they're the closest thing to Euro-sneakers I've been able to find consistently in the US. Y'all suck."

Unfortunately I can't tell if that comment was meant to be facetious or was in earnest.

Second, I think the "board" only takes issue with the latest is fashion when it looks bad. Like that scarf. Or skinny jeans on fat girls. Also, Sketchers are not the latest in fashion. Except maybe in Kentucky.

And it's Vampire Weekend, not Breakfast.

Third, are you just trying to start another fight with Joanna? Why do you have such an e-animosity towards her?

responses:

1.) Earnest... The phrasing came out wrong... Probably because I was looking over my shoulder at work to see if anyone was looking at me blog-comment-posting.

2.) Yes - realized that it is indeed Weekend instead of Breakfast right before I rechecked the comments... It was hard finding vids on Youtube for Vampire Breakfast.

3.) I don't like the cut of Joanna's e-jib.

4.) Seriously, if you're going to talk smack re: other people's fashion - I want to see some creds to bolster your validity.

Oh and W - your yellow/purple sweater-vest (and willingess to wear it Whenever, Whereever is proof enough.

Pardon for the grammatical crapiness above - looking over shoulder again.

I think we are a more fashion forward group. W is willing to try many things, as well as make others (me) do the same. You will see what sort of fashion moxie we are made of at our launch party.
